Bastide de Cadillac to Cadillac-sur-garonne
Languages spoken
On the banks of the Garonne, La Bastide was founded in 1280 for the King of England. Its original geometric layout, blocks of houses, central square with a few arcades, two of its four fortified gates, three towers and a large part of its surrounding wall all remain from that era. At night, this heritage is enhanced by a series of lighting effects. The church, which dates back to 1494, boasts a 1632 altarpiece in marble and bronze, a chapel that once housed the mausoleum of the Duc d’Epernon, the statue of La Renommée and a newly restored organ. The town is dominated by the superb Château des Ducs d’Epernon.
