Canal de Garonne to Castets et castillon
Created under Louis Philippe and formerly known as the “Canal latéral à la Garonne”, the Canal de Garonne is an extension of the Canal du Midi, linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. Stretching 193 km from Toulouse to Castets and Castillon, it has 53 locks, including 3 at Castets, the last of which makes the canal accessible to navigation on the Garonne and vice versa. The banks lined with hundred-year-old plane trees, the towpath, the bridges and the locks make the Castets site a heritage of national interest.
