These Romanesque churches in the Communauté de Communes du Bazadais were all attached to the diocese of Bazas. Most of them were built in the 12th century, with the occasional earlier construction campaign, as evidenced by certain sections of wall made of small rubble stones, combined with narrow elongated bays with a monolithic baseboard. The apses are often semi-circular, the one at Le Nizan having a remarkable interior arcade decoration. The capitals are not without originality. As a result of the disasters of time (Hundred Years’ War, Wars of Religion), all these churches have suffered greatly. With the repopulation of the Bazadais region in the 14th century, the churches were enlarged, the facades were rebuilt and new bell towers were erected, each of a particular type: usually under a porch, the Gothic door is framed by large buttresses.
