The only tourist route to link two coasts, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean, the Canal des 2 Mers à Vélo crosses the great south-west of France between Royan and Sète. The 750km route is divided into three sections: the Gironde Estuary, the Canal de Garonne and the Canal du Midi.

In Lot-et-Garonne, you’ll cycle along the Canal de Garonne, mainly on a greenway laid out on the old towpath. If each stage invites you to fall under the spell of lock houses, bastides, the Buzet vineyards or rural landscapes, one of the highlights of the trip will be your arrival in Agen via the canal bridge over the Garonne, the second longest canal bridge in France, built entirely of cut stone. Flush with water and under the cool shade of century-old plane trees, the walk is rich in discoveries.
