Cycling in the Bazadais region to Bazas
Languages spoken
We invite you to take a trip to the Bazadais region, located in the south-east of the department, on land that is slightly higher than the Landes plateau.
Between the Garonne and Ciron valleys, this area is bordered by the Landes forest to the south-west, but stands out clearly from this landscape. Although highly forested, the Bazadais is covered with numerous cultivated clearings, planted on gently undulating hills, and maritime pine gives way to oak. Meadows and cereal crops dominate, combined with a few orchards and rare vineyards.
Throughout this exceptional landscape, close to the Landes forest, you will come across a number of Romanesque churches.
These churches were all attached to the local church.
These churches were all attached to the diocese of Bazas.
Most of them were built in the 12th century, although some were built earlier, as evidenced by the small rubble stone walls and narrow elongated windows with monolithic lintels.
All these churches have suffered greatly from the disasters of time (Hundred Years’ War, Wars of Religion).
